But I had no idea what I was doing when I first decided to blog. And sometimes, even now, I'm still just as clueless. But when I look back at my old posts from years back, I'm just glad that to be reminded me of the good old days so this blog serves as a keepsake for and I treasure it for that. And back then, things were a lot simpler, I would only blog once a month and I was of course, the only reader.
And then, somewhere along the way, I started to blog more and more. And I've fallen in love with it. And I love how the blogging community made each other feel so supported how strangers can become friends just by reading each other's blogs. Friends just like this inspirational American-Muslim mom, Iman.
Why inspirational, you ask?
Iman and her husband Monem, are dedicated towards educating others, especially Americans, about Islam. They have a film documentary made called “On a Wing and a Prayer” which follows their adventures living in the states, while Monem attempts to obtain a pilot’s license after the 9/11 tragedy. And also another one titled “Faith Walks The Land” which depicts Iman traveling across the U.S. meeting small-town Americans and discussing stereotypes about Islam. And with all of that on her plate, she's also a mom of three young children.
Can I get a big woaaaah now?
We've been exchanging emails for months and I've been following her blog and her sister, Amnah's blog from as long as I can remember. So, when Iman suddenly mentioned in her email about coming to visit KL in August, I was of course, beyond excited and happy. We couldn't wait to finally meet in the flesh.
So, as luck would have it, we managed to get together for iftaar at Ben's last Friday. Iman and her family were such a darling to be around with, as expected, and I would totally consider kidnapping her two lovely princesses any day. Yes any day, I say.
Definitely, a time well spent -- with good food, happy faces, and lots of laughter. And I couldn't imagine spending it any other way.
It's amazing how small the world can be now, and it all started with this little blog.
